More Time Outdoors.
Everyone can agree -children are spending less time outdoors and more time in front of screens, much to the detriment of their health. Join the movement to get our children outside daily and help deepen their connection to the wonderous world around them. The more time we spend outdoors, the more we love it, and the more we will protect it. We will learn about local plants and animals in a welcoming environment that encourages free play and imagination.
Community is such an innate human need and meeting other homeschooling families can be challenging in these times. Come join this 5 hour drop-off class, which is taught completely outdoors next to a bubbling creek with plenty of room to roam and explore with new friends. Located only three miles outside of Lovettsville in Loudoun County, VA.
Classes run 10 am - 3 pm
Drop-off (means parents get some child-free time)
3 times a month (1 make-up day scheduled per month in case classes need to be canceled due to weather or illness)
Monday classes
Thursday classes
Ages 7-14 (mature 6 years considered)
This is a welcoming space for ALL regardless of gender, race, nationality, disability, age, sexual preference or religion.
Our day.
We will learn shelter-building, fire-tending, animal husbandry (rabbits), and edible and medicinal plant identification.
But mostly we PLAY. Our day is child-led and what do most of our students want to do? PLAY GAMES. Capture the Flag is a class favorite, so make sure your child brings running shoes.
This class will differ a bit from other local nature connection classes because we will be at one site and children will have the opportunity to spend week after week building their shelters. Learning these important ancestral skills are empowering and super fun!
As a huge proponent of free play, our days are child-led. We have an extensive costume collection and often costumes come out and wild, imaginative world-building unfolds! No two days are EVER the same at Camp Wonderhills.
Taught by an experienced, passionate educator.
Caroline (she/her) is an artist, herbalist, forager, natural dyer, and permaculturalist who grew up making art and running free on her family homestead in Frederick County, MD. For over two decades, Caroline has taught children in a variety of settings, including in both public and private schools. She has homeschooled her own children for the last nine years, where they have spent much of that time wandering in the woods, relearning the Old Ways of living and being in relationship to the land.
